Liam St. John today released his latest single, the poignant, blues-inflected “Devil In Disguise,” featuring the alt-rock group Houndmouth. This soulful roots song is highlighted by the haunting and distinct vocals of both Liam St. John and Houndmouth lead singer Matt Myers. “Devil in Disguise” reveals passionate and deeply personal lyrics, with a stirring sound that transports listeners to the contemplative expanse of the Wild West, where the song was written and featured in the visualizer here

I wrote this song in the middle of the Rocky Mountains in Condon, MT,” said St. John. “Well, I didn’t really write it as much as it forced its way out of me during a time of intense introspection. The Rockies will do that to a man. It was one of the more difficult songs to write as I had never really approached the feeling that comes with comparing the man I aspire to be with the mistakes I’ve made in my life. I’m very proud of this song, and I am honored to have Matt from Houndmouth sing on it with me. I love his voice, and he brings the second verse to life in such a raw, honest and truly beautiful way.”

““The thing that struck me first about the song was how soulful it was,” says Houndmouth’s lead singer Matt Myers. “That’s something that I appreciate in any genre of music, and with that in mind, it was an easy ‘yes’ when Liam asked me to contribute to the track.”

“Devil in Disguise” is the follow-up to St. John’s debut EP, “Believer,” which “Holler” called “an evocative, rock-tinged anthem that oozes gravitas and atmospheric, weighty verses.” The “Believer” EP dug into St. John’s emotional past, exploring struggles with faith, substance abuse, difficult relationships and more. “Devil in Disguise,” the first track to be released from an upcoming collection, remains deeply rooted in authentic, intimate storytelling through an expansive sound with instrumentation nodding to Western blues–harmonica, slide guitar, and haunting harmonies.

Currently on tour with Dexter and The Moonrocks, the unlikely “Western Space Grunge” heroes of West Texas, St. John is crossing the Southeast and Midwest US through the end of February, when he’ll join ZZ Ward’s “Dirty Sun Tour” through April.
